What inspires you?
As a writer, I often get asked about what inspires me. Everyone is inspired by something. Whether it’s a person, place or memory, our hearts respond, are awakened to reach higher and do something to contribute to this world.
For me, the ocean lifts its’ voice to reach inside my soul and move my spirit. It is my muse. Maybe it’s because the sea changes over time, has moods, touches every sense, is filled with life and holds hidden secrets. If you are a scuba diver you know the ocean is not a quiet place. Sound is amplified under water and travels great distances to tell its’ story. I have only to sit on a beach, inhale salty air, listen to crashing waves and I am held in its’ sway.
In a world overflowing with distractions, the sea reminds me what is important: To raise my own voice without holding back. To nurture life. To understand I cannot do this journey alone, we are all connected. To accept there are times to be calm and times to demonstrate fury and fight for what is right. To never forget to give thanks to the one who created me.
The ocean exemplifies how to live with power and abandon. The sea is alive and if you listen, tells a story that inspires awe.
The seas have lifted up, Lord,
the seas have lifted up their voice;
the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.
4 Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,
mightier than the breakers of the sea–
the Lord on high is mighty. Psalm 93
